First Day of School- Twice!

We have been waiting all summer for school to start and it finally came this week! And to make it even more exciting, Chloe had 2 first days of school. On Wednesday, the Kindergartners and First Graders have a one hour conference where parents and child meet with the entire class and the teacher.

While we waited for the conference to start, Chloe quickly found her own locker. I was very surprised that kindergartens get lockers! I didn't get a locker until 7th grade, and I had to share one with another student until high school. Fancy!

The students then found their name at a shared table and worked on projects while the teacher talked to all the parents.

Ben helped Chloe find out how tall she was. When all the students lined up at one point, I quickly noticed that she is definitely the tallest girl in her class, and there was maybe only 2 boys that were taller than her and not by more than an inch.

Chloe and Dad- she's now an official Lakeland Hills Wildcat!

Me and my baby in front of the school. Is she really old enough to be in a building so big without me? Much different than preschool.

Thursday was her official first day of kindergarten. She was so excited she could hardly stand it. She laid out her new school clothes (and new undies) the night before and was up by 6:00 a.m. on the nose. (She is not allowed out of her bedroom before 6:00). We heard her and Mitch go downstairs, like they always do, then a few minutes later she was back upstairs and in the bathroom starting herself a shower. After her shower she got dressed and combed her wet hair out and we all went downstairs. Downstairs we found that she had gotten Mitchell a bowl of cereal fixed and turned him a movie on, to keep him busy while she showered. How cute is that? Just like a little mom.

She has afternoon kindergarten that doesn't start until 12:30, so it was a long morning for a very anxious and excited little girl. She must have asked me 15 times how much longer until school started. It was a very long morning for her mother as well.

But finally it was time to eat lunch and head to the bust stop. But first we had to get pictures, of course.

She was very excited to get pictures- she did some fancy poses.

New backpack on, ready to go!

Chloe and her best buddy, Mitch. He has asked this week who his teacher is. Too bad he doesn't get to go to school, too.

A hug and kiss goodbye. These two do their fair share of fighting and annoying each other, but they sure do have a great time playing together. Mitch will get eased into Chloe being gone for school by just having her gone a half day this year. It will be nice to have a 2 1/2 hour span of no tattling.

Group shot!

Everyone waiting at the bus stop. And yes, Mitch rode his little car the whole way there and the whole way back.

I thought we were going to miss the bus because the walk to the bus stop is all up hill and that made for slower riding, plus he kept stopping and wanting to look at bugs and such.

But the way back was all down hill. This shot was taken while I yelled, "Get on the sidewalk, get on the sidewalk!"

The bus was about 15 minutes late and Chloe and Mitchell were so excited when they saw it coming up the hill.

On the bus she goes!

What a big girl! I didn't get choked up until the bus pulled away. Good thing I had three other kids to walk home and keep out of the streets to keep me distracted from being too sad.

For dinner that night we had homemade pizza and sparkling cider to celebrate the special day!

And then homemade maple bars for dessert! What a great first day.

What a big day! I can't believe Chloe got up at 6 a.m. and took a shower all on her own and brushed her own hair out. My 5th grader still struggles with that...
She's adorable and I'm sure she'll love school.

Homemade maple bars. Impressive!

I'm proud of Chloe and Carrie! Did you shed any tears after the bus left?
Pretty soon you may not even have to get out of bed in the morning. Chloe can run the whole show!

What a cute kindergärtner! How funny that she took her own shower. Way to go Chloe...before you know if you will be smarter than your mom and dad
