Birthday Girls- BIG 3!

Last Saturday, October 6, my babies turned 3.  Two was almost still acceptable to call them babies (almost), but three... three is big and grown up. We are slowly phasing out of calling them "the babies" but we still slip.  And that's ok.  I can do that as their mom.

A Saturday birthday was fun.  We had Ben home to help us celebrate all day, which rarely happens on a birthday.

I let the girls have a "birthday bath" which is a present in and of its self.  They love baths!  (I do not).

After bath time, I let them open up an early gift.

Thank goodness the gift was a cute new birthday outfit and a new pair of shoes.  The outfits the girls had chosen for themselves for the day were...interesting to say the least.

We then headed off to Chloe's morning soccer game.  It was the most perfect day for a soccer game.  Clear skies, sunny and gorgeous, gorgeous.  It was not cold at all.  Just perfect.  (Too bad rain is in the forecast for this Saturday's game.  I'm trying not to think about that).

Chloe- #4, watching the players on the field.

I got to hang out with the birthday girls on the sidelines when I wasn't snapping pictures.

Chloe's cheering squad

The first half of the game was not great.  No goals scored by either team and our offense was slow and lazy.

Finally in the second half, things started to pick up and every became a little bit more aggressive.

Go Chloe!

One girl on Chloe's team scored all 3 of their goals.  She is a great little player.  I caught the last goal on camera.  Chloe's team won 3-1.

This year's games are more intense and I found myself all worked up during the games.  I am a very competitive person and love sports- having those two interests and being a parent on the sideline may be tricky as my kids get into more sports and get older.  I want to win and I want my child to play well. Is that too much to ask? :)

Good job Golden Eagles!

We stopped at Wendy's on the way home for a Birthday lunch.  The Birthday Girls basically ate a handful of fries and a bunch of water.  Awesome.

For our next activity, we picked up Grandma Cynde and headed off to a local pumpkin patch.

We really couldn't have picked a better day to do this type of outdoor activity.  It was such a pretty day and by afternoon it was very warm.  And no mud to slosh through, which happens a lot at pumpkin patches up here.

My big girls in their birthday outfits.  Lexi's favorite color is pink and Leah's favorite color is orange.  When I found these outfits this summer, I knew they would be perfect for the girls- both of their favorite colors in the same outfit.

How old are you?  3!

Ben thought the twins would like a ride in the wheelbarrow, but they did not like it at all.

Mitch and Chloe took turns riding in it instead.

Cheese!

Then came the job of looking for the perfect pumpkin for everyone.

Chloe was the first one (and the last one) to find a pumpkin.  She quickly found a really cute orange one with green streaks in it.  We thought she was done.

The twins loved just following everyone around and looking at everything.

Mitch wasn't picky and found one in a short time.

But then it was back to Chloe.  She had something very particular in mind and wouldn't be rushed.  She put the orange and green one back and wandered the fields- looking and looking and looking.

Cynde helped her look at a bunch that we thought would produce a winner.  But no such luck.

As we were heading out, she finally found one in this big patch of already picked pumpkins.  Finally!

The twins picked out "baby" pumpkins on a table.

They were cute and easy to hold.
Cynde found a "twin" pumpkin- two pumpkins that grew together.  More like siamese/conjoined twins!  Ben wondered if you'd get charged for one or two pumpkins.

The twins with the "twin" pumpkin

Leah and Lexi loved the other little pumpkins there, too.

Leah really liked the white ones.

A family shot before we left.

Cynde and the kids

After weighing and paying for our haul, we headed home to open gifts.

The girls with all of their unopened gifts.

They loved opening presents!

The adorable rain boots from Cynde.  We love rain boots at this house and the girls had just outgrown their old, hand-me-down ones.

Thank you Grandma Cynde!

The beach/swimming outfits from Grandma and Papa Blakeslee were a hit!  The girls walked around in all or part of that outfit for the rest of the afternoon.

The adorable outfits and microphone and singing book set from Nana and Papa Andros.  Those microphones were a hot item with all the kids for the rest of the day.

All their loot!

Leah sat down to read one of her new books before cake and ice cream.

Call me a bad mom, but I have not made the twins separate cakes for any of their birthdays.  We don't have enough people at our house to eat two entire cakes.  And my girls could care less at this age about having their own cake.

When I asked the girls what color they wanted their cake this year, Lexi said "pink" and Leah said "orange."  I made sure to honor that request.  Thank you to Costco for the best chocolate fudge cake in the country.  And the lady who personalized it for us did a great job.  3 balloons each in their favorite colors for both of my 3 year old beauties.

3 fingers!  We are 3!

I do let them have their own candle to blow out.  Let's be honest- that's almost more exciting then the cake itself.

Yummy!

The girls played with their new toys, then went outside and rode their bikes for the rest of the beautiful afternoon and evening.

I love this shot of Lexi.  They are both fantastic little riders on their glide bikes.

Later that evening I did a little Question and Answer session with each girl.

"What is your favorite color?"  Leah: "orange" Alexis: "pink
"What's your favorite thing to play with?"  L: "With the puppies." A: "Baby doll"
"What do you like to do outside?" L: "Play in the garden."  A: "Ride my bike"
"Favorite Animal?" L: "Those puppies" A: "Giraffe" (random)
"What do you like to eat?" L: "mac and cheese." A: "Cake" (who doesn't?)
"What songs do you like to sing?"  Both said "Twinkle Twinkle" (They also secretly love Carly Rae Jepson's "Call Me Maybe")
"Favorite Book?" L: "Pip & Squeak" (she loves to say, "I'm Pip and Lexi you are squeak!"), A: "Ballet Kitty."
"Favorite TV show?" L: She first said "Netflix" and then "Toy Story." A: "Bubble Guppies"
"Favorite Thing to do with Mom?" L: "Play with the puppies" (that girl loves those puppies). A: "Get toys with you."
"Favorite thing to do with Dad?" L: "Play with the iPad." A: "Play toys."
"What makes you cry?" L: Her first response was "Ty and Blake" (some friends of ours that live two doors down).  Then she said, "Pirate ride at Disneyland." (yes, yes it did) A: "When I get bonked on my winkie" (she calls her pinkie a winkie).
"What makes you happy?" L: "Me!" (honest little thing)  A: "Dave." (Uncle Dave)
"Where do you like to go?" L: "In the bathroom" (she's not kidding) A: "To the store."
"Who is your favorite person?" L: "Megan!" (Aunt Megan) A: "Leah"

Happy Birthday to the sweetest, most mischievous, cutest little 3 year old twin girls I know.  You bring so much joy into our family.  Being a "MOM" (Mom of Multiples) has been one of the most fun and choicest blessings I have experienced.
